The move to launch a flip foldable is in line with Honor's push into the premium end of the market where it's looking to challenge companies like Samsung and Apple . There are two styles right now on the market — smartphones that fold like a book and those that fold vertically like an old school flip phone but without a visible hinge. BARCELONA — Honor will launch a foldable flip phone this year, the company's CEO told CNBC, marking the Chinese technology firm's first foray into the vertical-folding style of smartphone that has been popularized by brands like Samsung and Motorola. The entry into flip foldables will expose Honor to a different price point. The flip style of phones, such as Samsung's Galaxy Z Flip 5 are often priced cheaper than the horizontal-style folding devices.

BARCELONA — Chinese electronics maker Honor is working on a smart ring, its CEO told CNBC on Tuesday, just a day after Samsung took the wraps off of its own offering in the product category. Samsung debuted the Galaxy Ring on Monday after teasing it earlier this year. The device, which is the company's first foray into the product category, has multiple sensors that can track health markers, such as the wearer's heart rate. Honor is developing its own smart ring, company CEO George Zhao told CNBC at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. "Internally, we have this kind of solution, now we are working on that part, so in the future you can have the Honor ring," he said.

According to the Financial Times, Tufan Erginbilgic told staff at Rolls-Royce's main British site in Derby, central England, that the company's performance was "unsustainable" and it faced a "last chance" to change. "He was honest about our financial underperformance compared with our peers," a Rolls-Royce spokesperson said in an emailed statement on Friday. Shares in Rolls-Royce, which before the Financial Times report were at their highest for about a year, lost 4% in morning trading. Rolls-Royce was plunged into crisis when most air travel stopped for months during the pandemic, and then recovered only slowly. Many rounds of restructuring and asset sales were already undertaken under prior CEO Warren East, putting to question just how much more can be implemented," Zhao said.

Even in an aviation market that has rewarded shorter routes, regional airlines are doing terribly. This week, Cleveland-based Parker-Hannifin its acquisition of British aerospace and defense supplier Meggitt for £6.3 billion, equivalent to $7.2 billion. While it seemed like a fair price when the deal was announced last year, Wall Street analysts have since deferred their expectations for recovery at Meggitt by a couple of years. Shop visits by large jets have lagged behind due to the slow reopening of international routes. As George Zhao at Bernstein Research points out, though, it is the regional-plane rebound that has really disappointed.
Honor CEO George Zhao launched the company's Honor 70 smartphone in Europe during a virtual presentation at the IFA trade show in Berlin, Germany. Honor, which was spun off from Chinese technology giant Huawei in 2020, is trying to boost its market share outside of China. Honor, the smart devices company spun off from embattled Chinese tech giant Huawei, plans to launch a foldable phone in overseas markets as it looks to challenge Apple and Samsung on the global stage. Honor faces an uphill battle outside of China where it has less than a 1% smartphone market share. Alongside the upcoming foldable phone, Honor is placing emphasis on the more expensive premium end of the smartphone market outside of China.
